Frequently Asked Questions

Why Choose Quality Attributes?
Setting up a website for the first time or moving an existing website can be an easy process. Knowing what steps to take is imperative. We've already taken much of the guesswork out!

There are several questions you may ask yourself before choosing us as your host:

Why not just go with a free hosting service?
There are plenty of companies that offer hosting services for free or close to no cost. Most of the time the free hosting service still incurs a basic monthly fee from the Internet Service Provider (ISP), and often they must offest their costs by running "pop up" advertisements that may distract or annoy visitors, or by limiting storage space and uploading/ downloading.

You can get a free homepage from many companies. However, like any product or service, you get what you pay for. You will receive no guarantees of service or reliability, little or no support, no way of gathering information on web visitors, and no way to use dynamically data-driven server-side pages.

What is the physical connection to the Internet?
Many providers only use a T1 line to support a collection of websites. A T1 line has a maximum transfer rate of 1.44Mbps (Megabits per second). We have our systems supported by a DS3 which consists of 672 individual transmission channels allowing us to reach transfer rates of 43Mbps. This degree of bandwidth allows us to give you top-notch performance.

Also, many providers have several middlemen between them and the backbone of the Internet. We are place servers in the same room as the DS3. There are only a few hardware devices between a server and the DS3 which links to the main pipelines.

What server hardware and software is used?
We chose Microsoft Windows Server 2003 as our operating system for stability and flexibility purposes. This gives us the ability to run most mainstream databases as well as common server-side languages such as ASP, ASP.net or PHP. Our hardware consists of Dell Xeon Rack-mount Servers which are set to act as a web server (IIS) and database server (SQL2000).

How much disk space can my site use?
This is negotiable. Basic plans allow you 50 MB of storage. For your protection, this data is backed up along with the rest of the server on a nightly basis.

What about security?
Uploading files to the server required a username and password. You may upload and download files to your site but may not execute (run) any programs on the server. This protects you from other web administrators attempting to run viruses or other malicious code on the server which would disrupt your service.
